The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has released results from mass testing of inmates for COVID-19. The testing began on August 10th, based on recommendations from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
As of August 20th, the jail had 523 inmates who tested positive, while 747 inmates tested negative. Some of the positive cases had previously been reported on Sedgwick County’s COVID-19 dashboard.
As the results were received, the jail separated inmates based on their results. Inmates with symptoms have received treatment from the jail’s medical provider, and no inmates have required hospitalization.
Based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, positive cases without symptoms are considered to be recovered ten days after the test. It’s estimated that around 400 inmates will be considered recovered by the end of the weekend.
The jail is continuing to maintain sanitization standards that include having extra soap available and the use of disinfectant as needed. All staff members have been issued masks and all inmates have been issued face coverings over the past several months.
