Governor Laura Kelly visited Kansas State University Thursday for a tour of the Biosecurity Research Institute.   The tour provided information on work that is being done to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The facility is working on potential vaccine development, medicine discovery and research on how animals may be affected by the coronavirus.

The governor said the BRI has a history of excellence and innovation in researching disease spread, and she talked with staff about their work in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.   Kansas State University president Richard Myers accompanied Governor Kelly on the tour.

BRI is located at Pat Roberts Hall on the Manhattan campus.  It conducts research on infectious disease to address threats to plant, animal and human health.   It has several biosafety level 3 labs, the second-highest level of security possible.
