Wichita area care facility reports positive coronavirus tests

Sedgwick County health officials and the Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire have announced that two staff members tested positive for the coronavirus in June, and they have since recovered.

The facility tested residents and found that 11 tested positive but did not have symptoms.  A second round of testing came back negative for all of them.  Since then, the facility said no other staff member or resident has developed symptoms or tested positive.   Center officials said staff members have followed infection control protocols that have limited the spread of the coronavirus.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment had declared the cases as a cluster based on the first round of testing.

Sedgwick County health director Adrienne Byrne said in a press release that the county is working with the Catholic Care Center to monitor and protect residents and staff from COVID-19.
