Sedgwick County will lease Wichita building for new COVID-19 testing site

Sedgwick County commissioners have approved a lease agreement for a building in east Wichita to serve as a new location for drive-through coronavirus testing.

Assistant county manager Tania Cole said the hot weather during the summer will make it difficult for staff to continue working under the tents at the health department facility at 2716 West Central.  She said a building known as The Armory at 620 North Edgemoor was chosen as a new testing site.

Cars will drive into the building through a garage door entrance for the testing, then they will exit through a door on the other side of the building to return to Edgemoor.

The county will pay over $133,000 to lease the building for six months, with an option to renew for one year.   Cole said the health department will be working to move the testing operation and its 24 staff members into the building within the next week.
