Sedgwick County to stay with current economic recovery guidelines

Governor Kelly says most communities in the state can move to Phase 3 of the Ad Astra economic recovery plan, but Sedgwick County is going to remain in Phase 2.

The governor said Friday that the key indicators for the coronavirus have been showing downward trends, but it’s still up to local communities to decide if they can move into Phase 3.   That would allow for public gatherings of 45 people or less.

Sedgwick County’s local health officer, Dr. Garold Minns, is recommending that county residents continue to follow the Phase 2 guidelines, with a limit of 20 on public gatherings. Dr. Minns is recommending the Phase 2 guidelines to stay in place through July 3rd.    He made the recommendation because of increased community activity during the Memorial Day weekend and the following two weeks.

Dr. Minns said in a press release, “I believe that it is too soon for our community to move into Phase 3.  It is important for everyone to continue practicing healthy habits like washing their hands often, practicing social distancing, and wearing a mask if they are able.”

The county has reported a slight increase in the percentage of daily positive cases of coronavirus since the Memorial Day weekend.   The county on Friday was reporting 635 cases of coronavirus, with 21 deaths.   450 people have recovered, and more than 16,500 county residents have been tested.
