Second Lansing employee dies from Covid-19

The Kansas Department of Corrections says a second employee of Lansing Correctional Facility has died from Covid-19.

The department did not release the man’s name, but reports he was over the age of 50 and had worked at Lansing in various roles for nearly the past 20 years, most recently as a Corrections Supervisor I.  He died Tuesday from complications from the virus.

“This has been an extremely difficult week for our agency and staff,” says KDOC Secretary Jeff Zmuda said. “We are devastated and extend our condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of this dedicated public servant.”

“This virus has shaken our state to its core,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “Our corrections personnel have been invaluable during this pandemic. I extend my sympathies to his family and my sincerest thanks to the many who put themselves in harm’s way each and every day in service to others.”
