Governor Laura Kelly wants first responders, including police, fire, EMS and medical personnel to be able to receive Workers Compensation if the contract Covid-19.
The Governor says she has directed the Kansas Department of Labor to draft a temporary regulation and potential legislation designed to provide Workers Compensation coverage for first responders who contract Covid-19 while working in the state’s response to the pandemic. The regulation and legislation would create a presumption that first responders who contract Covid-19, contracted it on the job.
It would mean they would not be required to prove that the illness was contracted on the job and not from another source outside of work. The governor announced the proposal during her regularly scheduled daily press conference.
