KBI assisting in homicide investigations in southwest Kansas

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been called out to assist in the investigation of homicides in southwest Kansas.

It began Tuesday morning with the discovery of the body of a liberal man that was found by a farmer in a ditch on his property near Highway 54 and the Seward County, Kansas and Texas County Oklahoma line.  The body was found in Oklahoma, but due to the victim being from Liberal, Seward County as called in, who in turn, contacted the KBI to assist in the investigation.  The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Timothy J. Martin.

While authorities were still investigating the case, around 8:50 Tuesday night, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call, reporting that a body had been found in a trailer at the Seven Winds RV Park west of Liberal.  That victim was identified as 31-year-old Erick G. Salas, of Liberal.

Authorities believe both homicides are connected, because the two men were once roommates.  The case is currently being investigated by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office, the Liberal Police Department, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, the Texas County, Okla., Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas County, Okla., District Attorney’s Office.
