A Wichita man has been sentenced to 41 years in prison for the dragging death of a teenage girl that happened during a vehicle theft in 2021.

A judge gave 37-year-old Kevin Palmer 493 months in prison. Palmer had pleaded guilty in August to second degree reckless murder.

Prosecutors said Palmer stole an SUV in February 2021 at a restaurant parking lot in west Wichita.   The vehicle was left running with 13-year-old Brianna Ibarra in the back seat.  She tried to get out of the vehicle but she was caught in the seat belt and dragged for several miles on Kellogg before the vehicle stopped at West Street and Palmer ran from the area.   Police caught up with him a short time later.
