The faith-based Convoy of Hope organization is having an event Saturday in Wichita to provide food, school supplies and various services to families in need.  The event will take place at ten locations in the Wichita area.

The organization’s executive director, Stacie Cathcart, said the group will have 1,000 backpacks to give to children to get them ready for a new school year.   Clothing and groceries will also be provided and there will be a welcome packet with information on services available.

Most of the locations will be drive-through, but the Bethel Life Center at 3777 South Meridian will have walk-in services, including a job fair.

Other sites will be McAdams Park on East 13th, Hope Church at 2000 North Hillside, Zaik Church at 888 South Webb Road, His Helping Hands at Central Christian Church at 2900 North Rock Road, the Evergreen Recreation Center at 2700 North Woodland, Lifepoint Church at Valley Center High School at 9600 North Meridian, Planeview at Colvin Elementary School at 2800 South Roosevelt, Eisenhower High School in Goddard, and the Reno County Churches at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson.

Parking opens at 7 a.m. and distribution begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
