The driver killed in Thursday evening’s crash on I-135 is identified as 31-year-old Uriel Orosco, of Wichita.
This crash was reported shortly before 8 p.m., in the northbound lanes of I-135 near 13th. The KHP reports Orosco was slowing down in the far right lane with his hazard lights on.
A driver merging into Orosco’s lane rear-ended his car, causing it to spun and hit a bridge wall. Orosco’s 3-year-old son was critically injured in the crash, while his wife and 6-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries.
The 18-year-old driver that hit Orosco was arrested on suspicion of DUI but has since bonded out. KHP officials said they suspect impairment and are awaiting toxicology. The agency will work with the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether more charges will be filed.
