A 44-year-old Wichita man is in stable condition after being shot in the head early Wednesday morning.
Police said the incident happened in the 1600 block of E. Fortuna St. The man reportedly was attempting to break up a physical altercation within a large crowd when an unidentified suspect pulled a gun and shot him.
Officers responded to an area hospital after the man checked himself in for treatment. He has since undergone surgery and is in stable condition.
Police also located multiple casings at the scene of the incident, but said they have not been able to fully determine what led up to the shooting because of a lack of witness cooperation.
