Wichita police arrested a 20-year-old man considered to be a violent offender and a known gang member. He was caught after a traffic stop led to a brief chase Wednesday on the city’s east side.
Officers with a special enforcement team were watching a known location for David Smith in the 2300 block of East Mossman. They saw him get into a car and drive away around 3:40 p.m. and they tried to stop the car. Smith’s car stalled when he tried to get onto southbound I-135 from 13th Street. He ran on foot but officers caught up with him a short time later.
Police found two handguns in the car and another gun in the street where the car had stopped. Police said Smith was booked for the chase and for a federal indictment warrant.
