 A former state lawmaker from Wichita was sentenced on Thursday to 27 months in federal prison on convictions of money laundering and fraud.

45-year-old Michael Capps was found guilty in December, 2022 on 12 of the 19 charges against him, which included 3 counts of making false statements to apply for loans through the Payment Protection Program and Small Business Administration. He was also found guilty on 1 count of bank fraud, 4 counts of wire fraud and 4 counts of money laundering.

Capps’ sentencing also includes two years of post-release supervision. He was also ordered to pay more than $318,000 in restitution.
