Derby police have released more information on a crash and car fire that killed a 3-year-old girl and caused serious injuries to her mother.
Police said a 61-year-old Derby man was driving near K-15 and Meadowlark on April 24th, and his car went out of control and hit a car that was refueling at a Quik Trip. The crash knocked over a gas pump, causing an explosion and fire.
The crash resulted in the death of 3-year-old Harper Ivy. Her mother was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Derby police are still investigating the crash to find out if the Derby man had a medical issue that led to the crash. Information will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
