The Kansas Department of Transportation announced several temporary closures along I-135 North and Southbound at 37th St. North.

The closures will be Sunday, April 16th, from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Officials said crews will be removing Evergy power lines spanning the highway.

Ramps that will be closed include:

  • Northbound I-235 to Southbound I-135
  • Westbound K-254 to Southbound I-135
  • Southbound I-135 to Eastbound K-96
  • Westbound K-96 to Southbound I-135
  • Westbound K-96 to Northbound I-135

KDOT said a rolling roadblock will be used on Southbound I-135 from 53rd St. Traffic will be stopped at 37th for roughly five minutes beginning around 7 a.m. When work begins on I-135 Northbound, a rolling roadblock will be used from 13th St. to slow then stop traffic at 37th for about five minutes around 7:30 a.m.

Officials added that there may be a need for three separate closures of I-135 at 37th Street for the powerline removal and that workers will also remove lines over the Westbound K-96 ramp to Southbound I-135. They said that some ramps that aren’t necessary for this part of the work will be opened.

The work should be finished by 10 a.m. and the ramps will open back up.
