Thunderstorms moved through the Wichita area Friday afternoon as traffic was picking up for the evening rush hour, and several accidents had traffic backed up on Kellogg.

A crash on westbound Kellogg near Seneca caused the closure of the center and right lanes, with traffic moving to the left lane to get past the scene.  There were no reports of serious injuries.

Another crash closed the right lane on eastbound Kellogg at Topeka.   A crash was also reported on westbound Kellogg at Oliver.   It’s not clear if weather was a factor in the crashes.

Thunderstorms moved northeast into Butler County and strengthened to severe levels.  Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Butler, Chase and Greenwood counties with the threat of 60 mph winds and half-dollar sized hail.

A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect for much of central and eastern Kansas through midnight.
