Schools in Augusta and Clay Center had police officers in school buildings on Tuesday as a precaution after an email bomb threat that was received.
The Augusta Department of Public Safety said it was a mass email that was sent to about 50 different addresses. It was received by schools, banks, colleges and private businesses in Kansas and Illinois. The email made a reference to a bomb and demanded $100,000 in Bitcoin.
Augusta officials said they were told by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation that this is not a credible threat, and it appears to be a scam to trick agencies into giving Bitcoin.
