Barton County officials are investigating a weekend crash where the driver ran from the scene, leaving a disabled man in the wrecked vehicle.
Deputies said a pickup overturned in a ditch at SE 70th Road at SE 100th Avenue, south of Ellinwood. Deputies found the crash scene Saturday night and there was a 40-year-old man, who is a paraplegic, who was left stranded inside the truck.
Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and Stafford County deputies found the driver about a quarter of a mile away from the scene. He is a 63-year-old Ellinwood man who had injuries from the crash. He and the passenger were taken to a hospital in Ellinwood. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office said the driver had a suspended license and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
