The Kansas Humane Society is hosting a pair of events for “Bring Home Holiday Happiness National Adoption Weekend.”
Beginning on Friday Dec. 9th through Sunday, Dec. 11th, the Kansas Humane Society will have adoption specials that include $25 adoption fees for adult dogs (6 months +) and kittens (under 1 year). Included with adoption is spay/neuter, microchip and age appropriate vaccinations.
The Kansas Humane Society is located at 3313 N. Hillside in Wichita.
The organization currently has 137 pets available for adoption and an additional 300 pets in their care as of Monday. No appointment needed to adopt or visit with available animals. View real-time information for available pets on our website at kshumane.org.
The Humane Society added that national data trends are showing that 2022 has been a tough year for shelters. Shelters nationwide are struggling with higher intake, while live outcomes (such as adoptions, fosters and rescues) are not keeping pace. This has led to a population imbalance, with more animals in shelters staying for longer periods. Additionally, many shelters are facing challenges with staffing shortages, limited hours, decreased volunteers, and reduced adoption events. All this adds up to the current crisis of most U.S. shelters being at or over capacity, resulting in pets being more at risk due to lack of space.
