Two men have been charged in connection with the shooting deaths of two people at a home north of Derby during the July 4th weekend.

42-year-old David Baeza of Wichita is charged with two counts of voluntary manslaughter.  His bond was set at $500,000.    43-year-old Joseph Ponse of Wichita has been charged with attempted first degree murder, and his bond was also set at $500,000.   The two men are scheduled for their next court appearances on July 18th.

Baeza was found on the shoulder of the road July 2nd in the 4300 block of South Rock Road.  He was taken to a hospital and later arrested.  Ponse was found at the scene and taken into custody.    Police found the bodies of a man and woman in the back yard of a home nearby.

The woman has been identified as 43-year-old Saren Negrete-Perez of California.  The man’s name has not been released.    Investigators said the victims did not live at the home, and the shooting is believed to be tied to drug activity.
