$9 Million Available to Those At-Risk of Water Service Disconnection

The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) announced that Kansas household impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic may benefit from a new program to help restore or prevent disconnection of water and waste water services.

The DCF will be administrating the Emergency Water Assistance Program, or EWAP, a federal program authorized by the 2021 American Rescue Plan and the 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act.

Once the funding is exhausted, the program will end. The program is also separate from other assistance programs DCF offers, such as the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program.

Applications for EWAP will be available on Wednesday, Dec. 1st, 2021. You can apply by clicking here.

Qualifying applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently disconnected from drinking water and/or wastewater services or have received a disconnection notice.
  • At least one adult household member must be responsible for drinking water and/or wastewater costs incurred at the primary residence payable to either the landlord or water utility vendor.
  • At least one household members must be a U.S. Citizen or meet the lawful residency requirements.
  • Combined gross income equal to or less than %150 of the Federal Poverty Level.

Water partners are asked to submit a signed water vendor agreement and tax documents, which can also be found in the link above.
