According to AAA Kansas, more than 47.7 million Americans will be traveling over the Fourth of July Weekend as travel volumes are expected to nearly fully recover from pre-pandemic levels.
This will be the second-highest Independence Day travel volume on record, behind 2019. This is an increase of nearly 40% compared to 2020, when total travel fell to 34.2 million.
More than 91% of holiday travel is estimated to be by car, despite the highest gas prices in seven years. It is anticipated that roughly 43.6 million Americans will drive to their destinations, which the highest on record for this holiday and 5% more than the previous record set in 2019.
3.5 million people are planning to fly, with air travel volumes this holiday weekend reaching 90% of pre-pandemic levels–which marks a 164% increase from last year.
