Kansas transportation officials have been reopening roadways in the state that had been closed by snow and blizzard conditions.

  • In Reno County, KDOT has reopened K-14, U.S. 50, K-61 and K-96.
  • In Harvey County, crews have reopened U.S. 50 and K-89.
  • KDOT has also reopened closed highways in Barton, Rice, Pawnee and Rush counties.
  • In Stafford County, crews have reopened K-19 and U.S. 281 north of U.S. 50.

K-96 was closed west of Mt. Hope.

Interstate 70 is closed from Salina west to the Colorado line.

All state highways have been closed in Pratt County, but Highway 54 is still open from Pratt east to Cunningham.   Highway 54 has been closed west of Pratt.

Even with the storm moving out of Kansas, many roads are still hazardous and KDOT is urging drivers to stay off the highways if possible.  Strong winds have been blowing snow back onto the roadways after crews have cleared the snow cover.

Roads in a number of western Kansas counties were closed earlier because of blizzard conditions.   A number of roadways were still closed at midday Tuesday.

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has issued a state of disaster emergency proclamation because of the winter storm.  This will allow state resources to be positioned to respond to provide assistance to local communities.
