A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday to begin a year-long construction project to remodel the Westlink Branch of the Wichita Public Library.

Mayor Brandon Whipple, City Council member Bryan Frye and Director of Libraries Jamie Nix were the speakers for the event.

The branch near Central and Tyler Road closed in May and a temporary location was set up near Central and Ridge Road to provide materials and services until the remodeling is complete.

The project will take 12 to 14 months to complete and it will nearly double the size of the existing Westlink facility.  The remodel will provide more community spaces and new technology for users, along with study spaces, a drive-up window, and an expanded children’s room.
