Sedgwick County will buy properties in downtown Wichita for the development of a new Community Crisis Center for its COMCARE agency.

The county will buy three properties in the 200 block of South Topeka for a purchase price of $5.4 million.   Some demolition and renovation work will be done to create space for a COMCARE facility and related parking.

The location will consolidate services for COMCARE Crisis, The Substance Abuse Center of Kansas and the Sedgwick County Offender Assessment program.  County facilities manager Andrew Dilts said the location on Topeka provides an opportunity to collaborate with the upcoming Biomedical Campus planned by Wichita State University and the University of Kansas.   Dilts said the Topeka site will be a central location for easy access, it will provide a clinical setting for students from the Biomedical Campus and it will help meet future workforce and growth needs for the county.   County Commissioner David Dennis said this location will serve the county well in the future.
