Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab has announced the kickoff for the first statewide election in 2024.  The Presidential Preference Primary will be held on March 19th.

The Republican and Democratic parties have notified the Secretary of State’s Election Division that they will be participating in the election.   The primary will replace the caucuses that the parties have held in past years.    The primary will determine how the parties will allocate delegates to their national conventions.

The primary was authorized by the Kansas Legislature earlier this year.  Schwab said in a press release that it will be important for voters to participate in the process.  This will be the third state-run Presidential primary in Kansas history, with the previous primaries in 1980 and 1992.
