The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate.
A 35-year-old inmate was found unresponsive in his cell around 5:50 Sunday morning, and jail staff provided medical attention. The inmate was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy has been ordered.
The Sheriffs Office said the inmate was being held on felony charges and he had been in custody since January. His name has not been released at the request of his family.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation will work with the Sheriff’s Office on the investigation. This is the third in-custody death at the jail for 2023.
