Wichita Public Schools is hosting a special board meeting Thursday, August 10th, to discuss student cell phone use.

The Wichita school district is proposing a revised policy requiring elementary students to shut off personal electronic devices and store them in their backpacks or classroom storages areas.

Middle school students would not be allowed to use personal electronic devices unless granted permission by an administrator. Students would have to silence and store their devices at all other times.

The policy would allow high school students to use personal electronic devices before and after school, during passing periods and lunch.

The new policies will be read during Thursday’s meeting, which is open to the public. However, district officials said there will not be a vote on the changes just yet. The meeting is scheduled noon in Room 809 of the Alvin E. Morris Administrative Center.

USD 259 returns from the summer break on Tuesday, August 15th.
