Wichita police are investigating after a stolen car crashed into the front gate at Botanica.
Executive Director Dawn Hewitt said there was damage to the gate and the structure supporting the gate, and staff has been working with an insurance company to assess the damage and get repairs made. No injuries were reported and there was no damage to the gardens. Police are still investigating the incident, which involved a city-owned vehicle that was stolen from a nearby water treatment facility and left at Botanica.
Botanica’s main entrance off Amidon is still open and should be used for admittance into the gardens.
In addition, construction work on a new water facility has resulted in the temporary closing of Murdock between Amidon and Woodrow. People who are going to Botanica can follow detour signs to get access to the Botanica gardens.
