A Wichita man has been sentenced to life in prison for a 2021 crash that killed a pregnant woman.
39-year-old Javan Ervin was convicted in June of first degree murder, second degree murder, aggravated battery, attempting to elude law enforcement and other charges.
Prosecutors said Ervin led police on a chase on July 6th, 2021 and he crashed into three cars near Central and Ridge Road. The crash killed 22-year-old Samantha Russell of Wichita, who was eight months pregnant at the time. Doctors delivered her son, who survived. Police were investigating a series of robberies in west Wichita when they began the chase with Ervin.
