The City of Wichita will be spending $1 million to acquire land and conduct design work for two new fire stations.
The city has 23 fire stations, with the most recent one opening in 2009. A recent study found gaps in coverage in certain areas of the city, so work is underway to provide better protection for those areas.
Fire Chief Tammy Snow said areas at the northwest and southwest corners of the city have been identified for new fire stations. Any contracts for land purchases and design work will be taken to the City Council at a later time for approval. It’s hoped the new stations will be built and operating within the next two years.
