Nurses were holding picket signs outside two Wichita hospitals on Tuesday in a one-day strike that had been previously announced.

Members of National Nurses United were walking outside Ascension Via Christi St. Francis and Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph hospitals, calling attention to concerns they have with ongoing contract negotiations.   The nurses say short-staffing and understaffing have made it more difficult to care for patients, and they have also raised concerns about workplace violence incidents that have happened across the country.

The nurses were on picket lines early in the morning and were planning to be out again in the late afternoon and early evening.   A Back to Work Rally was scheduled for 6 Wednesday morning.
