Storms bring heavy rains, hail, strong winds to Wichita area

Severe thunderstorms developed over south central Kansas Monday afternoon, bringing wind gusts of 65 miles-an-hour along with quarter-sized hail and heavy rains.  A number of accidents were reported across the Wichita area as the storms moved slowly across the area from east to west.

Quarter sized hail was reported near Maize, along with a wind gust of 65 miles-an-hour.   Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for parts of Sedgwick, Harvey, Butler, Sumner and Harper counties.

A 60-mile-an-hour wind gust was reported with a storm that moved through the Newton area.

The heavy rains brought street flooding, with a report of cars stalled near Murdock and Washington.   There were also accidents reported on eastbound and westbound Kellogg at Hillside, and accidents reported on K-96 at 13th Street.    There were also reports of downed power lines with scattered outages in Wichita and in Valley Center.   Evergy reported over 1,000 customers without power in the area of 29th Street North and Tyler Road.
