Wichita police said Monday they have made an arrest in a cold case sexual assault from 2007.   A 52-year-old Augusta man has been booked into jail on charges of rape, aggravated sexual battery and aggravated criminal sodomy.

Police were called to the 1900 block of South Tara Falls on November 13th, 2007 on a report of a sexual assault.  They learned that someone had broken into a home and assaulted a woman at that location.   Investigators were unable to identify a suspect at that time.

In a recent collaboration with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations Cold Case Team and the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center, police were able to use genealogical techniques to help identify a potential suspect.  The suspect’s identity was confirmed through DNA testing.

The suspect was arrested Monday by police and he was booked into the Sedgwick County jail.   Information will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for the filing of formal charges.
