Wichita State University has announced the 2023 winners of the Professor Fran Jabara Scholarship in Entrepreneurship.

The scholarships will go to Kayla Atkinson of Andover Central High School and Caleb Lowry of Eisenhower High School in Goddard.   They will reach receive over $32,500 spread out over four years to attend Wichita State and major in entrepreneurship.

Atkinson is a senior at Andover Central and her plan for the future is to start a bakery and share her interests in new techniques, baked goods and healthy eating.

Lowry is a senior at Eisenhower High School and has been active in sports, and he wants to create a company related to sports and the outdoors.

The Jabara Scholarship is one of the largest of its kind in the U.S. for entrepreneurs.   To qualify, a student must write an essay and have achieved a score of at least 24 on the ACT Test, along with a 3.5 grade point average.    The scholarship is named for the late Fran Jabara, who was a Wichita State faculty member for 40 years and founded the WSU Center for Entrepreneurship.  He also served as the dean of the College of Business Administration.
