Officials with Meritrust Credit Union is warning of a new scam involving people sending texts pretending to be with the company.

The scammers will try to obtain personal information. Meritrust members reported receiving these texts, saying that they were asked to verify a purchase, noting that the messages appeared to be legitimate at first glance.

Meritrust officials said that giving out information such as account numbers, social security numbers, or online banking login info gives scammers access to your financials.

One of these scams will ask members to text a yes or no response. A “no” prompts a phone call from a spoofed number appearing to be from Meritrust.

If you come across these messages, you’re advised not to click on any links or provide any information, and you should report it to your financial institution immediately.
