Charges have been filed against a Wichita man accused of firing shots at officers during a foot chase, then trying to get away on an ATV.
The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office filed charges against 41-year-old Pearl Haynes IV for an incident on March 31st in the 6700 block of West Par Lane. Police were called to a domestic violence incident, and a 34-year-old woman told them that Haynes showed up at her apartment intoxicated and began breaking several items. Officers saw Haynes running from the apartment and they chased him, then they heard several shots. The officers were not hurt.
Later, a resident in the 1300 block of South Westfield reported Haynes in the area. He tried to get away on an all-terrain vehicle but it tipped over in the 200 block of South Byron Court. He was caught in the area a short time later.
Haynes is charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, criminal threat, and other counts. His bond was set at $100,000 and his next court appearance is scheduled for April 13th.
