Kansas correctional facilities are investigating the death of an inmate at the El Dorado Correctional Facility.
Prison officials said 35-year-old Marcos Issac Delarosa was found unresponsive in his housing unit on Monday. He was serving a 116-month sentence on convictions in Ford County for drug and weapons charges.
Prison staff provided treatment for Delarosa until EMS crews arrived, but he was pronounced dead. An independent autopsy will be conducted but a preliminary assessment indicates the death was not related to COVID-19.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation will work with the state corrections department to look into Delarosa’s death.
