Suspect in Fatal W. Wichita Motel Shooting Arrested

The man wanted in connection to last Tuesday’s fatal shooting at a Wichita motel has been arrested.

Wichita Police located and apprehended 43-year-old Larry Powell for the shooting death of a 50-year-old California man at a Motel 6 in the 5700 block of West Kellogg. Powell has been booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

The shooting happened around 5:10 p.m. on Feb. 21st. The victim was taken to an area hospital but later died.

Investigators learned the victim had a verbal altercation with Powell that turned physical, leading to Powell shooting the victim in the chest before fleeing the scene.
