Joplin police said officers were trying to stop a vehicle with a suspect in a recent shooting incident, and that led to a chase that ended with a crash in southeast Kansas.

Officers were trying to stop an SUV in Joplin around 11:15 Friday night, but a passenger took over the vehicle and sped away.   During the chase, he fired several shots at officers but no one was hit.  The chase went into Kansas and the SUV crashed near Galena.   A 34-year-old Joplin man was taken into custody and turned over to Kansas law enforcement officials.  He is expected to be extradited to Missouri during the next week.

Joplin police said no officers were hurt and none of them fired their weapons during the chase.   They said the suspect has active felony warrants out of Newton County, Missouri and Joplin.  He is also considered a person of interest in a February 7th shooting incident that left a man injured at a Joplin home.
