Kansas corrections officials say homicide appears to be the cause of death for an inmate at the Lansing Correctional Facility, and the death is under investigation.
Lansing officials said corrections officers were called to a cell around 8:30 p.m. Friday by a 25-year-old inmate in a two-person cell. They found the body of 62-year-old Gary Raburn, and he appeared to have been attacked and strangled. EMS crews were called and they made attempts to revive Raburn, but he was pronounced dead. An autopsy has been ordered.
Raburn was serving a sentence from Sedgwick County for two counts of violating the state offender registration act. He was also convicted in Neosho County on a charge of aggravated kidnapping.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is working with corrections officials on the investigation of Raburn’s death.
