Monday was the last day to vote early and in person for the November general election in Sedgwick County.  There was a long line around the Historic Courthouse at noon when the early voting period came to an end.   Election Commissioner Angela Caudillo said a couple of extra machines were set up to handle the turnout.  There were 549 people who voted Monday at the Election Office and the last ones were in line before the noon cutoff time.   The last person voted at 2:01 p.m.

The Election Office said over 50,600 voters turned out early in person, and more than 24,900 mail ballots had been returned.     Caudillo said mail ballots have to be postmarked by Tuesday and they have to be in the Election Office by next Monday, November 14th.  That is a later time than usual because of the Veteran’s Day holiday on Friday.   Mail ballots can be dropped off at polling places on Tuesday and they will be processed.

If you plan to vote on election day, you’ll need to go to your designated polling location. If you got a random text telling you where to vote, it may not be accurate. Kansans have reported getting texts directing them to the wrong polling site. Use the link below to check on where you are supposed to vote. On election day, polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are in line when the polls close, you will be allowed to vote.

The turnout for the general election is expected to be around 55 percent.
