A woman and her dog were killed in east Wichita after being hit by a vehicle as they attempted to cross the street.
Wichita Police said the incident happened just before noon at the intersection of 2nd and Oliver. Officers said 69-year-old Ellen Edens of Wichita was in a crosswalk on Oliver when she was hit by a northbound SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The intersection was shut down for some time after the incident as police spoke to the 82-year-old driver of the vehicle and other witnesses to learn what had happened.
This is the 32nd fatal collision of the year in Wichita, with a total of 35 deaths reported.
