The Sedgwick County Health Department said Thursday it expects to receive the new COVID-19 booster shots later this month, but the current booster shots are now on hold for people 12 years of age and older.
The Food and Drug Administration has provided emergency use authorization for reformulated boosters from Pfizer and Moderna that will protect against the omicron subvariants.  The Pfizer shots are for people 12 and older, and the Moderna shots will be for people over age 18.   The Centers for Disease Control and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment are expected to give their approvals in the next few days.
Sedgwick County health officials are expecting the new boosters to arrive no sooner than the week of September 12th. Until then, the Health Department has stopped providing booster doses to people over age 12.  Only first and second doses of the vaccine will provided at the main clinic at 2716 West Central and at the mobile clinics.  Staff will contact people with existing booster appointments to reschedule.
The current COVID-19 boosters are no longer FDA-authorized for people 12 and older, but children ages 5 to 11 are still eligible to receive them.
