Sedgwick County is among nine counties that have started a hand recount of the ballots from the abortion access question that was on the August 2nd primary ballot.   The recount is being conducted after supporters raised nearly $120,000 to cover the cost.

Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Angela Caudillo is putting a board together to work on the recount, and she is looking for 200 volunteers.  Anyone who is interested should send an email with their party affiliation and contact information to voterinformation@sedgwick.gov   They will have to be registered voters in Sedgwick County.    The workers will be scheduled between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and possibly Saturday.  The recount will have to be completed by Saturday.

Caudillo said the public can go to the Sedgwick County Extension Center at 21st and Ridge Road to watch the recount.  She said observers cannot get within three feet of the counting table, and they cannot participate in the recount.

On August 2nd, Kansas voters rejected a primary ballot measure that would have meant that the right to an abortion would have no longer been guaranteed under the state constitution, and lawmakers would have been able to pass legislation regulating abortion.
