The Red Cross will be installing more than 300 free smoke alarms in Wichita homes during its “Sound the Alarm” event this Saturday, May 21st.
The organization said it needs roughly 100 volunteers for the event and will supply all the training and equipment needed.
Volunteers will meet at The Center, 1914 E 11th St. N, starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday before going out at 9 a.m. to install 10-year smoke alarms in at-risk neighborhoods.
“Sound the Alarm” is the Red Cross’ annual push to install thousands of free smoke alarms across the U.S. during the month of May. The goal is to install 50,000 smoke alarm systems. The initiative is part of the Home Fire campaign, which aims to reduce home fire deaths by 25%.
