Wichita officials say crews are continuing to work on a processing issue that caused odor problems for the area surrounding a south side wastewater treatment plant.   The problem was discovered earlier this month.

The city reported Wednesday that the treatment process has been stabilized at Wastewater Plant 2 at 57th Street South and Hydraulic.   All of the odor-causing biosolids have been removed from the process and they are staged at the plant for hauling and disposal.   All of the material will be hauled away from the plant by early next week, and it will be used for agricultural purposes, which is a routine process for disposal.

Staff has used chemical odor suppressant materials to bring the odor problem under control, with anticipation of warmer weather ahead.

The city said the plant continues to be in compliance with all discharge requirements and it’s being closely monitored.   There is no danger or health impact to the community.
