Wichita performer Dusty Grant performed his SECOND show with his full band in front of THOUSANDS of people in 2021, opening for Chris Daughtry in Andover, KS.

It was an unreal moment for the singer/songwriter, who has been thrown into a whirlwind of sudden popularity in the community. He saw spikes in listenership on streaming platforms. His video for the song “For You” quickly surpassed 15k views, and now, he has released the first full-band single, “Oceans.”

“Oceans is the first song I wrote with my lead guitar player Jason Catlett, to introduce the full-band sound,” he said. “We wrote it together after we experienced the unexpected loss of a close mutual friend.”

That friend was Wichita local scene icon Kenny Ballinger, who was sadly killed in an auto/motorcycle accident in the fall of 2021.

“We’d been friends and worked together for a long time around the scene in a lot of different capacities. It’s a song with a deep meaning to all of us in the band.”

“Oceans” is a deep ride through the emotions Dusty felt while dealing with the grief of Kenny’s death.

The video was released alongside the song Friday morning, which you can watch, and listen to below.

“I’m pretty much blown away by the response to this one already,” Dusty said in a facebook post. “I barely slept and woke up to a TON of notifications about how the song has connected with people and I’m honestly super emotional bout it. We worked our asses off on this one.

“I am grateful to work with such amazing and talented people to make music.”

The song was also produced locally by Chris Dawson, who some Wichita natives might also remember from the band Seasons After.
