The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is now reporting nine cases of the omicron variant of COVID-19 in the state.

Five of the cases are in Sedgwick County, two cases are in Wyandotte County, and the other two cases were reported last week with one in Franklin County and the other in Douglas County.   No details have been released on the Sedgwick County patients.

The state reported an additional 2,659 cases from the weekend, with seven new deaths.   Sedgwick County reported another 178 cases with no new deaths.   The county has now topped the 75,000 mark for the pandemic.  A great majority of the new cases are the Delta variant.

Sedgwick County was reporting a positive testing rate of 8.7 percent on Monday.   There was no new information on hospitalizations on the county’s COVID-19 dashboard, but hospitals in Wichita have been in a critical status with close to 170 patients.
